Raised in Brookline Massachusetts, Dara was first exposed to art by her mother, a renown weaver, and her father, who loves photography and painting. She learned to draw and sculpt at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School where she and her sister went to art classes every Saturday morning while growing up. She received a Bachelor of Science from Skidmore College majoring in Fine Art and Art History and a certification in Schooling Horses. She spent the next 30 years as a freelance illustrator and writer publishing over 25 books. Her whimsical artwork has appeared in numerous kinds of publications from Your Big Backyard Magazine to The New York Times. She has created animations with 360KID for On-Demand Television, and educational software with Fablevision for learning.com. In order to inspire others to imagine and create, Dara developed a program which she presents to elementary schools, universities and libraries in New England.
Dara has been studying Graphic Design at RISD where she also teaches illustration.
